Visit Bolama Region

The Bolama Region of Guinea-Bissau is located on the northwestern coast of the country between the Geba and Cacheu Rivers. This region is known for its beautiful beaches, lush mangroves, and vibrant wildlife. Tourists visiting Bolama can enjoy breathtaking views from their resort or take a boat trip to explore the islands in its waters. For a unique cultural experience, one can visit Joao Vieira National Park which bustles with colorful birds and pink flamingos.

Historically, Bolama was once home to West African slaves who worked on coconut plantations during Portuguese colonial rule in Guinea-Bissau. Today, many of these slave dwellings have been preserved by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites that shed light into this part of African history. Visitors can also visit other interesting historical sites such as 16th century churches or old forts built by European settlers centuries ago.
