Visit Norte Province

The Norte Province of Guinea-Bissau is located in the northwest of the country, bordering Senegal to the north and east. It is a region known for its beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife. The River Cacheu passes through an expansive wetlands area in the province that's home to a variety of birdlife, such as fish eagles and pelicans. Wildlife safaris are popular activities here for nature lovers, along with fishing trips on Lake Poilao, which lies within the wetlands.

History buffs will enjoy visiting Gambia's National Museum in Bafata which has displays about local culture and ancient artifacts from nearby archaeological sites. Other interesting places to explore include Quebo mountain range with its spectacular views, as well as Tite Marine Biological Reserve where visitors can observe rare flora and fauna species up close.

An interesting historical fact about Norte Province is that it was an important region during the 18th century slave trade when many African captives were exported by Portuguese traders from deep inland parts of Guinea-Bissau across to America via Cacheu port city.
