The Cuyuni-Mazaruni region of Guyana is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in South America. One interesting fact about Cuyuni-Mazaruni relates to its colonial past: during the early days of British colonisation, gold was discovered in Mazaruni-Cuyuni that helped fund many British governments over time. Today it remains an important source of gold mining in Guyana.
