New Amsterdam is a small yet vibrant city located in the country of Guyana. Founded in 1791 by Dutch settlers, the city has held onto its historic charm and old world architecture, making it a great destination for those who want to explore a piece of colonial history. Here visitors can wander through streets lined with traditional wooden buildings, visit landmarks such as the Handelshuis Museum or take a trip downriver on one of the quaint riverboats that ply their trade along the Berbice River.

The city is also home to many small shops selling traditional arts and crafts and colourful markets that offer an insight into local life.
