Visit Nippes


Nippes is a department in Haiti located near the south-western tip of the island and shares a border with the Dominican Republic. The area has numerous tourist attractions and activities, including exploring its rainforest, trekking through its mountains, or visiting lagoons for swimming and fishing. One of its most popular sites is the Bassin-Bleu waterfall, known for its turquoise waters and lush jungle surroundings.

This region was once heavily occupied by African slaves who escaped from French plantations during the Haitian Revolution in 1804. Its culture remains deeply rooted in Africa and as such, you will find many colorful festivals that celebrate this heritage every year. In addition to cultural attractions, Nippes also features historical sites such as Fort Liberte which was built by French soldiers during colonial times.
