Haiti's West Department is the most populous department in the country and is home to many of its largest cities, including Port-au-Prince, Les Cayes, and Jeremie. Located on Haiti's western coast along the Caribbean Sea, this region offers visitors a wide array of attractions, from lively cities and stunning beaches to breathtaking mountains and lush rainforests. Among its most popular tourist sites are Bassin Bleu, an awe-inspiring series of waterfalls located near Jacmel; La Citadelle Laferriere, one of the world's largest fortress built atop a mountain; and Plage de Labadie Beach for some fun in the sun. The area also boasts a rich history - Leogane was one of the hardest hit areas during Haiti's catastrophic 2010 earthquake. Today it is making strides towards recovery with help from programs like Artists for Peace and Justice.
