Visit Csongrád County


Csongrad County is a county in southeast Hungary, situated on the Tisza River. It is bordered by Romania to the east, Serbia and Bacs-Kiskun to the south, and Hajdu-Bihar to the north. The county is known for its many natural attractions such as Kis-Somlyo Hill, an extinct volcano which offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. There are also numerous archaeological sites in Csongrad such as Szeged Castle and Kecskemet Roman Catholic Church.

One of the top tourist destinations in Csongrad County is Szeged Open Air Theater which hosts cultural events throughout the year, including musical concerts and theatrical performances. Another popular attraction is Hortobagy National Park which houses some of Hungary's most important wildlife habitats including wetlands, marshes and meadows. Visitors can enjoy fishing for salmon or explore nature trails on horseback or foot.

A notable historical event that took place in Csongrad County was the Battle of Mohacs in 1526 where Ottoman forces led by Suleiman I defeated Hungarian King Louis II's army resulting in a significant shift of power over Eastern Europe.
