Visit Győr-Moson-Sopron County


Gyor-Moson-Sopron County, in the northwest of Hungary, is known for its natural beauty and elegant towns. The capital is Gyor, a vibrant city with a picturesque old town and lively cafe culture. Nearby Mosonmagyarovar has some impressive baroque architecture, while Sopron has an interesting mix of Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman influences.

The county also has plenty to offer outdoors enthusiasts: There are several nature reserves and hiking trails around Lake Ferto in the south; or river rafting at the Rabca River in the west.

A must-see for visitors is Loverek Castle near Gyor which dates back to the 14th century and was once owned by Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus. Other popular attractions include Gemenc Nature Reserve - home to over 270 species of birds - as well as Koszeg Castle in Sopron.
