Visit Pest County

The Pest County of Hungary is a region located in the north-central part of the country. It is bordered by the Danube and Tisza Rivers, making it an ideal destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and relaxing on its banks. The area also has many historical sights to explore, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Esztergom Basilica.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Pest County is Visegrad Castle. This fortress was built during the Middle Ages and offers breathtaking views of its surroundings from atop a hill overlooking both banks of the Danube River. Other attractions include Szentendre Island with its beautiful churches, gardens and museums; as well as Godollo Palace with its Baroque architecture and lovely landscaped gardens.

The region's history goes back to Roman times when it was known as Aquincum - now part of Budapest - one of Europe's most important cities in antiquity. A more recent development was in 1873 when Buda Castle united with Pest into what we now know as Budapest today - something that makes this county so unique!
