Visit Tolna County

Tolna County is located in the southern part of Hungary and has a considerable amount of history. It borders Lake Balaton to the north, Gyor-Moson-Sopron county to the west, Baranya county to the south, and Bacs-Kiskun county to the east. The towns of Bonyhad and Szekszard are among its most popular destinations with plenty of tourist attractions like ancient castles and charming churches.

The city of Paks is particularly interesting as it is home to one of Hungary's two nuclear power plants. Tourists here can also visit a unique Roman Catholic church built by craftsmen from nearby villages using medieval techniques in 1767. Also worth visiting are Zsambek Castle and Suto Castle, both originally built by Hungarian aristocrats in the 18th century but later rebuilt in Baroque style after being destroyed during World War II.

Tolna County also has an important historical connection with Francis II Rakoczi who led a revolt against Austrian rule from this region during the early 1700s - a period known as 'Rakoczi's War for Independence' which eventually failed though it became a symbol for Hungarian patriotism that continues today.
