Visit Zala County


Zala County is located in south western Hungary and is a favorite tourist destination. It has a unique mix of beautiful landscapes, historical sites, and excellent wineries. Popular attractions in the region include Keszthely-Festetics Palace which was built in 1745 and still stands today as one of the most impressive Baroque castles of its time. Visitors can also enjoy exploring the picturesque Zalavar Castle which was built in 1222.

The area also boasts numerous vineyards with some of Hungary's finest wines produced here including Tokaji and Somloi wines. The region is filled with many other interesting sites such as thermal baths, nature parks, museums, markets and small villages to explore.

An interesting historical fact about Zala County is that it has been inhabited since ancient times with evidence found dating back to the Neolithic period (5000-3000 BC). In later years many archaeological finds have been made near Lake Balaton from Roman times including coins and pottery providing insight into life during this era for local tribes living along the shoreline.
