Hawa Mahal (English translation: “The Palace of Winds” or “The Palace of Breeze”) is a palace in Jaipur, India approximately 300 kilometers from the capital city of Delhi. Built from red and pink sandstone, the palace sits on the edge of the City Palace, Jaipur, and extends to the Zenana, or women’s chambers.

Plan your visit

  1. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing so that you can explore the entire palace complex.
  2. Make sure to carry your camera or a phone with a good camera as there are plenty of opportunities for taking great photos at the Palace of Wind.
  3. Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats to protect yourself from strong sunlight when visiting Hawa Mahal during hot summer months in Jaipur city.
  4. Be careful when exploring the narrow corridors of this five-storeyed palace as they might be slippery due to water seepage from the nearby lake or pond system.
  5. Schedule your visit between 4 Pm - 6 PM if possible because some parts of the palace won’t be open before that time and you will miss out on its beauty if you don’t go then!
