Visit Banten

The Banten region of Indonesia is located on the western coast of Java Island and is home to some 8 million residents. It's known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, including beautiful beaches, lush forests, and towering volcanoes. Visitors can explore the Sultanate Palace Museum in Serang to learn more about the area's history, or take a boat ride around Ujung Kulon National Park to spot wild animals like Komodo dragons.

One of Banten's most famous attractions is Anyer Beach, an idyllic white-sand beach with breathtaking views of Mt Krakatau Volcano. Besides getting some sun during your stay here, you can also visit two ancient Hindu temples at Panaitan Island - Sri Baduga Temple and Gunung Sari Temple - that were built in the 11th century by King Airlangga.

An interesting historical fact about this region is that it was once part of a powerful Muslim kingdom called 'Sunda Kingdom', which ruled over much of West Java between 16th to 18th centuries before it was conquered by Dutch forces in 1808.
