Visit East Kalimantan

East Kalimantan is a province in Indonesia located on the island of Borneo and is home to some of the most biodiverse rainforests in the world. It borders Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, sharing its east and south coasts with them respectively. The area is known for its stunning landscapes, offering tourists an adventure like no other.

One of East Kalimantan's popular tourist destinations is Derawan Island, renowned for its crystal clear waters and colorful coral reefs which are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Another tourist hotspot is Tanjung Puting National Park where visitors can take a traditional river boat tour to observe some of the rare wildlife that exist in this protected area.

Back in history, East Kalimantan was once under the rule of King Bunyu Jatuah during 1886 until his death in 1899 when it was then annexed by Dutch East Indies colonial government as part of their expansion into Borneo island. Today, many remnants from these times can be found throughout the region including old mosques and fortifications that provide a great insight into this fascinating period in history.
