Kalimantan Barat, or West Kalimantan, is one of the provinces in Indonesia located on the island of Borneo. It is a land of lush rainforests, rivers, and mountains that provide a habitat for a variety of exotic wildlife species. A popular tourist destination, visitors can explore Gunung Palung National Park which offers opportunities to spot many rare animals including sun bears, orangutans and gibbons. Visitors can also enjoy Surabaya Beach where they can relax by the fascinating blue waters and soak up some sun while taking in stunning views of Sambas Bay. Another highlight is Singkawang City where travelers can discover unique Chinese-influenced temples and traditional markets selling vibrant handicrafts and souvenirs.

Interesting historical fact about Kalimantan Barat is that it used to be known as Sambas Sultanate which began as an ancient kingdom established in 1609 by Adityawarman who was an influential Hindu prince from Minangkabau. The sultanate became part of Dutch East Indies colony until Indonesian independence in 1945 when its name was changed to Kalimantan Barat.
