Kalimantan Utara, or North Kalimantan, is a province of Indonesia located on the northern part of the island of Borneo. Here, travelers will find stunning landscapes with lush rainforest and rare wildlife. Nature lovers will appreciate the many national parks and reserves which are home to endangered species such as Orangutan, Proboscis monkeys and Sun Bears.

An interesting historical fact about Kalimantan Utara is that it was ruled by several kingdoms before being colonized by the Dutch East Indies in 1874. It has since been passed from one foreign power to another until finally achieving independence in 1945 along with Indonesia.
