Visit North Maluku

North Maluku is a province of Indonesia located in the far north of the country, near the Philippine Sea. It consists of several large islands as well as numerous small ones and is one of the lesser traveled tourist destinations in Indonesia.

A must-see for visitors to North Maluku is Ternate, an island known for its magnificent scenery and historical sites. The city was once a major trading center within the Spice Islands and its fortifications and palaces are evidence of this history. Tourists can also explore Tidore, another beautiful island with picturesque beaches, volcanic mountains, and nearby coral reefs perfect for snorkeling or diving.

For those interested in learning more about North Maluku's history, there are many interesting facts to explore. For example, during World War II it was used by Japan as an air base to launch attacks against Allied forces in New Guinea. Additionally, it was here that entrepreneur John Clunies Ross established a coconut plantation that developed into what would eventually become known as Cocos (Keeling) Islands which now belong to Australia.
