Visit Riau Islands


The Riau Islands is a province of Indonesia located in the Strait of Malacca, just off the coast of Sumatra. It is made up of over 3,200 islands and covers an area of more than 4560 square kilometers. The capital city and largest settlement is Tanjung Pinang on Bintan Island.

The Riau Islands are known for their pristine beaches and beautiful natural landscapes. Tourists can explore the many island's coral reefs to spot colorful fish or visit nearby mangrove forests filled with wildlife such as macaques and monitor lizards. Visitors can also experience traditional culture by visiting local villages or trying traditional foods such as pindang (fish soup).

For history buffs, there are several sites to visit including the Siak Palace which was once home to a powerful sultanate that ruled much of Sumatra in 17th century. The Tengku Fisabilillah Mosque offers insight into local architecture from the 19th century while Fort Marlborough on Bengkalis Island reveals important clues about Indonesian-British relations during colonial times.
