Visit Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province


The Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province is a province in western Iran located between the provinces of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari, Lorestan, and Ilam. The region has an incredibly diverse geography including mountainous areas, plateaus, wetlands, forests and plains. It also has a rich archaeological history with many warm springs also populating its landscape.

The province is home to many interesting attractions including the Bisheh Waterfall and Tang-e Choopan Cave. Tourists can enjoy activities such as bird watching or take in the view while rafting down the Zayandeh River from Dezful to Shushtar which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its intricate irrigation system dating back over 2000 years ago.

One interesting historical fact about this region is that it was once known as Poshtkuh-e Boyerahmad when it became part of Iran's network of provinces in 1967 before changing its name in 1986 to Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.
