Visit Dhi Qar Governorate

The Dhi Qar Governorate of Iraq is a beautiful and vibrant region full of culture and history. Located in the south-central part of the country, it is home to some 4 million people, who enjoy a hot desert climate throughout the year. With two major cities, Nasiriyah and Al-Amara, it offers plenty of recreational activities such as shopping, dining out and exploring ancient archaeological sites.

The sprawling ancient city of Ur is one of Dhi Qar's most popular tourist attractions. Built around 5000 BC, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was once home to Abraham and features an impressive ziggurat that stands over 60 metres tall - an impressive sight for visitors! Those looking to explore further can visit Uruk - another important archaeological site located just outside Nasiriyah's city limits.

Dhi Qar also has its fair share of historical monuments that tell tales from centuries past. The gravesite of Prophet Ezekiel can be found near Nasiriyah - believed by locals to mark the prophet's final resting place - while in Uruk visitors will find Sumerian stone tablets with texts dating back more than 5500 years!
