Visit Erbil Governorate


The Erbil Governorate, located in the northern region of Iraq, is home to the city of Erbil. The city is considered to be one of the oldest in human history and dates back to ancient Mesopotamian civilization. It is a major tourist destination for travelers interested in seeing its historical sites as well as its vibrant culture. Two of the most popular touristy places are Citadel Hill which houses an archeological site with ruins dating back over 5,000 years and Sami Abdulrahman Park which offers beautiful views of Erbil's modern skyline as well as several outdoor activities and attractions.

Erbil has a rich history that spans many centuries. One interesting fact about this region is that it used to be part of Assyria - an ancient empire with one king ruling over multiple territories from 883 BC until 605 BC when it was conquered by Babylonians before eventually becoming part of Iraq during World War I in 1918.
