Visit Saladin Governorate

The Saladin Governorate of Iraq is a beautiful region located in the north-central part of the country, just south of Mosul. It is known for its rolling hills, lush green vegetation and stunning cultural sites. The city of Tikrit is the capital and largest city in the governorate and offers a wealth of historical attractions, including Saddam Hussein's former Presidential Palace.

The ancient ruins at Hatra are also an interesting site to explore; this fortified city was built by the Seleucid Empire more than 2000 years ago and contains some remarkably well-preserved archaeological remains. One unusual attraction in Saladin Governorate is Samarra's Spiral Minaret, one of Iraq's most iconic structures which dates back to 851 AD.

In addition to its rich history, Saladin has plenty for tourists to enjoy including picturesque lakeside towns and plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking trails through rugged terrain or river cruises along the Tigris River. An interesting fact about Saladin Governorate is that it was once home to several Christian monastic orders during medieval times who lived peacefully among their Muslim neighbors until they were expelled by Ottoman forces in 1534.
