Isola dei Pescatori (meaning Fishermen’s Island) is an island in Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. As the most northerly of the three principal Borromean Islands it is also known as Isola Superiore and, with a population of 25 in 2018, it is the only one to be inhabited all year round. Unlike Isola Bella and Isola Madre, the island has never belonged to the Borromeo family.

Plan your visit

  1. Make sure to check out the picturesque harbour, which offers spectacular views of the lake and mountains.
  2. Take a boat ride along Lake Maggiore and explore its many islands, including Fishermen’s Island.
  3. Visit the island’s main attraction - the San Vittore sanctuary - which dates back to 1675 and has stunning frescoes covering its walls.
  4. Sample some of the delicious local cuisine, including freshly caught fish from the lake or truffle specialties found in nearby villages like Mottarone or Cannero Riviera . 5 . Enjoy some restful relaxation time by taking a stroll along one of Fishermen’s Island’s beautiful beaches or take in an evening sunset overlooking Lake Maggiore as you sip on a cool glass of Italian wine
