Visit Clarendon Parish

Clarendon Parish is one of the fourteen parishes of Jamaica, located in the southeast corner of the island. It is known for its lush rolling hills, tropical climate and abundant wildlife.

The historical capital of Clarendon is May Pen, where visitors can explore a variety of attractions such as marketplaces and rum distilleries. For a nature-filled day out, tourists may visit Frankfield Great Park which contains hiking trails and waterfalls.

The parish also has many interesting historical sites such as the ruins from an old sugar plantation in Chapelton and a 19th century prison situated in Race Course. One intriguing historical fact about Clarendon Parish is that it was once home to an extinct species - the Jamaican Giant Galliwasp lizard - which was discovered here in 1890 by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace.
