Visit Iwate Prefecture


Iwate Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region of Japan and is known for its breathtaking natural beauty. It's surrounded by mountains, forests, and beautiful coastline making it a great destination for outdoor lovers. The driest months to visit are from December to April and the rainy season typically runs from May to October.

One famous tourist location in Iwate is Hiraizumi, a small town that has been designated as a Unesco World Heritage Site due to its unique cultural heritage and stunning architecture. Here you can explore the ruins of an ancient temple complex as well as soak in hot springs or enjoy some delicious local cuisine.

Another must-see spot for visitors is Jodogahama Beach which boasts clear blue waters, striking white rocks formations and a variety of activities like snorkeling or kayaking around the shoreline.

Iwate also has some interesting history; during the Muromachi period (1336-1573) it was ruled by Date Masamune who built two grand castles - Iwadeyama Castle & Matsukawa Castle - that still stand today despite being over 450 years old!
