Toji, also known as Kyō-ō-gokoku-ji, The Temple for the Defense of the Nation by Means of the King of Doctrines, is a historic Buddhist temple located in the city of Kyoto, Japan. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, founded at the beginning of the Heian Period after the capital was moved to Kyoto, is a symbol of the city’s rich history and cultural significance.

One of the main attractions of Toji is its five-story pagoda, which is the tallest wooden tower in Japan and a symbol of Kyoto. Visitors can also explore the Kondo Hall, housing a large wooden statue of the Yakushi Buddha. The temple grounds are also home to a monthly flea market, known as Kōbō-san, offering a wide range of antiques, food, and local crafts.
