Visit Miyagi Prefecture


Miyagi Prefecture is a Japanese prefecture located in the Tohoku region of Honshu. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Iwate Prefecture to the north, Fukushima Prefecture to the south, and Yamagata Prefecture to the west. The prefectural capital is Sendai City. A popular tourist destination in Miyagi is Matsushima Bay, known for its 260 small pine covered islands and stunning views. There are many temples located throughout Miyagi that are open for visitors such as Zuiganji Temple near Sendai or Muryokoin at Dewa Sanzan Holy Mountain Range. For history buffs, one of Japan's most famous samurai warriors, Date Masamune was born and raised in what is now modern day Miyagi. Visitors can see his burial site on top of Mt Kinka or visit Aoba Castle ruins which was built by him during his life time.
