Discover Hirado
Hirado is a small city located in the Nagasaki Prefecture of Japan. Its strategic location at the crossroads of foreign trade has made it one of Japan's most historically significant cities, with evidence of settlement dating back to 708 AD. The city is home to many shrines and temples connected to its long history, as well as resting spots along walking and biking trails that meander through its narrow laneways.
While visiting Hirado, be sure to explore the ruins of Hirado Castle, once the stronghold for Japanese merchant traders engaged in international commerce during the Edo Period (1603-1868). There are also several stunning parks with panoramic views over Matsura Bay, including Odejima Park and Bessho Park. Finally, a trip to Hirado wouldn't be complete without taking a boat tour around Matsura Bay where you can experience rich marine life as well as some beautiful limestone cliffs rising up from the sea.
