Visit Shiga Prefecture

The Shiga Prefecture in Japan is a stunning location known for its beautiful mountain scenery, lush forests, and tranquil lakes. It has been a popular destination among tourists and locals alike since ancient times. One of the most iconic locations to visit in the prefecture is Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake and an excellent spot for hiking, swimming, and bird watching. The nearby Hiyoshi Grand Shrine has served as an important spiritual center for centuries and offers breathtaking views of its surrounding natural beauty.

Those interested in history will be delighted to learn that Shiga was home to numerous battles during the Sengoku period (1467-1590). In particular, one of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's most famous victories took place on Mount Ibuki in 1583 when he defeated a much larger force led by Shibata Katsuie. This victory marked the beginning of the unification of Japan under Hideyoshi's rule.
