Visit Toyama Prefecture


Toyama Prefecture is located in the Honshu region of Japan, bordering Ishikawa and Nagano prefectures. The prefecture has a population of around 1.1 million people, and is known for its spectacular landscape ranging from mountains to coastline. Tourist attractions include Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its traditional gassho-style thatched roof houses; Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, an impressive scenic route with breathtaking views of the Japanese Alps; and Toyama Castle Ruins, a fascinating historical site offering insight into the area's feudal period past.

For history buffs there are many sites to explore in Toyama Prefecture. One not to be missed is Shomyo Falls located deep within Oyabu Valley which is said to be one of Japan's three great waterfalls. Also worth visiting is Entsuji Temple which was founded in 717 AD by Buddhist priest Shodo Shonin and features a beautiful five-story pagoda. Additionally, there are many ancient shrines such as Hakuun Shrine where visitors can observe sacred rituals performed by local priests throughout the year.
