Kofu is the capital city of Yamanashi Prefecture located in central Japan. It is a beautiful and picturesque city, surrounded by mountains and blessed with plenty of greenery. Kofu has a rich history going back over 800 years, it was once the home of Takeda Shingen, an influential warlord during Japan's Warring States period.

Kofu's main attractions include Shingen-ji Temple where Takeda Shingen was enshrined; the ruins of Katsunuma Castle; Risshaku-ji Temple built on top of Mount Hiei; Yumura hot springs popular for their medicinal qualities; and Fuefukigawa Fruit Park which hosts festivals all year round at its orchards and greenhouses. The surrounding areas are also home to many wineries producing some excellent Japanese wines.

Those who visit Kofu should take time to enjoy its natural beauty including the spectacular scenery from Eshima Ohashi park at Lake Tenbokoroyama, as well as taking part in a range of activities such as cycling around Kawamata Dam or hiking within Minobu National Park.
