Tafilah Governorate is a province located in the west of Jordan. It lies to the east of Aqaba and south-west of Amman, the capital city. The region is rich in natural beauty and is home to several awe-inspiring places such as Wadi Mujib, a deep ravine with crystal clear waterfalls and spectacular views; Dana Biosphere Reserve where guests can take wildlife safaris; and Shobak Castle which dates back hundreds of years.

The region offers an array of activities for tourists including jeep safaris up the mountain sides, horse riding along ancient trails, bird watching in nature reserves, rock climbing on sandstone cliffs or simply soaking up Jordan's fascinating culture through local markets or museums.

Tafilah Governorate has a long history dating back to antiquity when it was part of the Decapolis alliance that included cities such as Gerasa (modern day Jerash). In more recent times it has become known for its archaeological remains from both pre-Islamic Arabia and Roman times such as Umm el Jimal - an ancient village founded around 1st century AD that boasts breathtaking ruins made entirely out of black basalt stones.
