The Zarqa Governorate is a province in the country of Jordan, located northeast of Amman. It has a population of over 1 million people and is known for its rich history and diverse culture. The capital city of Zarqa is also called Zarqa, and it serves as an important industrial center within Jordan.

Zarqa Governorate contains many tourist attractions to explore such as the ancient ruins of Umm Qais which were once part of the Decapolis, a federation of cities that are famous for their Greco-Roman architecture. Another popular attraction nearby is Qasr al-Azraq Castle, which dates back to pre-Islamic times and boasts impressive structures made out of black basalt stone.

An interesting historical fact about the area is that Muawiyah I, one time leader or caliph (6th century) who founded the Umayyad Caliphate was born in what today lies in this governorate region near Amman's western outskirts - an area known as Ein Alaqiyeh - making it part if Jordanian heritage throughout Arab history.
