Visit Almaty

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan, located in the south-east of the country. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Central Asia and boasts stunning scenery, ranging from snow-capped mountains to lush meadows and forests.

A popular tourist destination, Almaty offers plenty of opportunities for sightseeing; must-see attractions include Kok Tobe Hill - home to a ferris wheel with incredible views over the city - and Medeu, an outdoor ice rink situated at 1075 meters above sea level.

The region also has a rich history; did you know that Almaty was once known as Verniy? The name change occurred after World War II when Joseph Stalin gave it its current name (which translates as 'fatherland') in order to honour his Kazakh roots.
