Visit Baikonur

Baikonur is a region in Kazakhstan that is home to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the world's first and largest space launch facility. This region has a rich cultural and historical heritage, with evidence of human settlement dating back thousands of years. Its idyllic landscape is characterized by vast steppes, bright blue skies, crystal clear rivers and rolling hills.

The main tourist attractions in the region are the Monument to Gagarin - where visitors can learn about Yuri Gagarin, who became the first man in space after his 1961 launch from Baikonur - and Memorial Museum-Reserve of Buran Program - an interactive exhibit dedicated to both manned and unmanned Soviet space missions. Both destinations offer stunning views of nearby mountain ranges, as well as insights into local culture and traditions.

An interesting historical fact relates to Kazakhstan's independence from Soviet rule: The nation was officially declared independent via presidential decrees issued at Baikonur on 16 December 1991 - making it one of the most historically significant events in Kazakh history!
