Visit East Kazakhstan Region


The East Kazakhstan Region of Kazakhstan is a vast expanse of mountains and steppe, with a rich history and culture that has been shaped by centuries of nomadic people. The region is home to the Altai Mountains, as well as Lake Balkhash, one of the world's largest lake systems. The region has beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, rafting, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding.

One popular tourist destination in the East Kazakhstan Region is Semey City. It's known for its vibrant culture and historical sites like the Monument to Victims of Political Repression which commemorates those who were persecuted during Stalin's rule. Another popular attraction is Charyn Canyon National Park with stunning rock formations created by millions of years erosion by the Charyn River.

An interesting historical fact about East Kazakhstan Region is that it was once part of Chinese territory prior to Kazakhs gaining independence in 1991 after the fall of Soviet Union. The area has strong ties with China even today due to its proximity across border.
