Soltustik Qazaqstan (or South Kazakhstan) is a region in southern Kazakhstan bordering Uzbekistan. It is a picturesque landscape of mountain ranges, agricultural plains and sprawling deserts. The Aksu-Zhabagly Nature Reserve provides visitors with an opportunity to explore the local flora and fauna including snow leopards, bears and falcons. The Sheki Khanate was founded within Soltustik Qazaqstan during the 18th century by Muhammad Quli Khan. He built multiple fortresses across the region such as Baba-Ata fortress which remains standing today as a reminder of its turbulent past.
