Visit Bungoma County


Bungoma County is located in Western Kenya, near the border with Uganda. It is home to many distinct cultures, including the Banyala, Bukusu and Luhya peoples. Bungoma enjoys a tropical climate ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking and birdwatching, as well as cultural tourism. Must-see sites include Nzoia Falls National Park and Chebukwabi National Monument. The latter is an archaeological site that offers insight into the history of human settlement in the area. Other nearby attractions are the Musanda Sacred Forest, where locals come to worship ancestral spirits and offer sacrifices, and Mount Elgon National Park with its many caves and trails. An interesting historical fact about Bungoma County is that it was home to a group of freedom fighters who actively resisted British colonial rule during World War I - this group later became known as Dedan Kimathi's Mau Mau Warriors.
