Visit Makueni County


Makueni County is situated in the southeastern part of the Republic of Kenya. It is bordered by Machakos, Kajiado, Kitui and Tana River Counties. The county covers an area of 8,243 km2 and has a population of approximately 1 million inhabitants according to the 2019 census.
Makueni County is home to many attractions including Mount Kasigau National Park which features an important ecosystem in East Africa with diverse habitats and abundant wildlife as well as Lake Kavivya where you can observe crocodiles, hippopotamus, fish eagles and other water birds.
The region also boasts some interesting historical sites such as Sultan Hamud Ruins which are believed to have been built by Arab traders during the 16th century who used it for trading purposes. The ruins still bear testimony to this rich history.
All in all Makueni County is a wonderful destination for tourists looking for adventure or a cultural experience given its vast array of activities that range from bird watching at Lake Kavivya to exploring the Sultan Hamud Ruins..
