Visit Samburu County

Samburu County is an enchanting region in Kenya located in the far north, bordering Ethiopia and Lake Turkana. It is home to the semi-nomadic Samburu people, who are known for their unique culture and colourful dress. Its landscapes are made up of sun-scorched savannah dotted with acacia trees, meandering rivers and lush oases.

Tourists can visit Samburu National Reserve which teems with wildlife such as elephants, lions, leopards, cheetah and many species of birdlife. Another popular spot is Kalama Conservancy - a vast area of grassland that's home to abundant antelope species including gerenuk and Grevy's zebra.

A historical fact about Samburu County is that it was part of the colonial British protectorate of Northern Kenya from 1920 until its independence in 1963. The area subsequently became part of modern day Kenya though still retains a strong indigenous heritage.
