Visit Siaya County


Siaya County is located in the western part of Kenya, along Lake Victoria. It has a population of more than 1.1 million people and an area of 2,245 km2. Siaya provides educational facilities at primary and secondary levels with some universities providing higher education services as well.

Siaya County is known for its unique cultural heritage and tourist attractions, such as Lake Victoria which provides beautiful sunsets and a great place for fishing on its shores, the historic Kogelo Village which was once home to President Obama's ancestors as well as numerous ancient shrines that still stand today. Other interesting places to visit include Bondo famous for Robert Ouko memorial site where he was assassinated in 1990 while serving in the cabinet and Rarieda District which has some notable traditional ceremonies like Lwanda Magere held annually during August-September by the Gusii community.

Apart from its cultural connections, Siaya County also has many historical sites including Tom Mboya's Mausoleum that commemorates his leadership efforts towards Kenya's freedom struggle before independence. In addition it has been home to several renowned African leaders such as Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who led the first semi-democratic government after independence in 1957/58 among others making it an interesting place to explore Kenya's history through guided tours around these monuments!
