Visit Taita–Taveta County

Taita-Taveta County is situated in Kenya's coastal region and covers an area of 17,081 square kilometres. It has a population of over 300,000 people, mainly comprising the Taita and Taveta ethnic groups. This county is known for its stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. One of its most famous tourist attractions is the Tsavo East National Park, where visitors can catch glimpses of lions, leopards and elephants as they roam through the savannas. Another popular place to visit is Mwatate Hill, which offers breathtaking views as you climb up to the summit.

The area also has a rich history. In 2009 it was declared an autonomous county after years of lobbying from local leaders who wanted greater autonomy from the government in Nairobi. During World War I it was used as an Army base by British forces fighting against German forces in Tanganyika (now Tanzania). Today it continues to be an important part of Kenyan life where traditional culture still thrives alongside modern development efforts.
