Discover Istog

 
Istog is a small city located in the Kosovo region of the Balkan Peninsula. It is situated at the foot of the Prokletije Mountains, about 75 kilometers north-west of capital Pristina. The city's population is estimated to be just under 10,000 people and it serves as an important regional center for commerce and education.

Visitors will find plenty to experience while visiting Istog. One must-see spot is St. Mary's Church which dates back to 1868 and features impressive neo-gothic architecture with elements from both Romanesque and Byzantine styles. Another highlight are the two traditional market places--the Old Bazaar (Carshia e Vjeter) which offers local products like honey, cheese, fruits, vegetables and more; or Gjllopi Market with its blend of traditional shops mixed with modern retail stores. Visitors can also take a walk around "Rruga e Kreshnikeve" street in old town area where they can see old buildings from Ottoman times as well as coffee shops serving up traditional Turkish coffee on every corner.
