Visit Junik

Junik is a region in the southeastern part of Kosovo populated by Albanian, Bosniak and Turkish communities. It offers spectacular scenery, such as rolling hills and crystal-clear waters from its several rivers, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers. The region is also known for its cultural heritage and authentic customs that are still practiced today.

Two popular tourist destinations in Junik are the ancient ruins of Theranda city and the caves of Prekaz. Theranda was once a vibrant trading center that dates back to 550BC, while Prekaz Caves are a complex network of underground tunnels built by local villagers during times of conflict.

Another interesting fact about Junik is its involvement in World War I when it became part of the Kingdom of Serbia's First Army under General Petar Bojovic's command to repel Austro-Hungarian forces from entering Kosovo. This protection ultimately resulted in Serb control over large parts of Kosovar territories until 1999.
