Visit Leposaviq

The Leposaviq region is located in the northern part of Kosovo and is home to a rich culture and history. It is bordered by Serbia to the north, North Macedonia to the east, Albania to the south, and Montenegro to the west. This region has many tourist attractions including Ujman Lake which offers an idyllic setting for outdoor recreation such as canoeing or fishing. The medieval castle of Kacanik stands proudly as it overlooks Ujman Lake. This castle dates back from 13th century and has been preserved as a national monument due to its historical significance in protecting Kosovo against Ottoman invasions during the 15th century. Visitors can also explore Gracanica Monastery which is one of Yugoslavia's most important religious monuments with its impressive frescoes dating back from 14th century. Aside from these two touristy places, visitors typically search for traditional Kosovan eateries in Leposaviq that serve up unique local dishes such as cevape (minced meat rolls) or flija (a layered pastry dish). An interesting historical fact about this region is that Leposaviq has always been strongly associated with coal mining because it was once one of Yugoslavia's major coal production areas after World War 2 until 2000 when all mines were closed down due to environmental concerns.
