Visit Mamushë


The Mamushe of Kosovo are an ethnic Albanian people historically found around the city of Prizren and in other parts of western Kosovo. This dynamic culture is known for its vibrant art, traditional clothing, and its unique language, which is closely related to Albanian but distinct from it.

One popular tourist destination in Mamusha country is the Orthodox Monastery at Visoki Decani, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its beautiful frescoes painted during the 14th century. Not far away is the old town of Prizren with its many Ottoman-era mosques and cobblestone streets bustling with cafes and restaurants serving local delicacies like suxhuk (spicy sausage) or flija (a savory pancake).

Another interesting fact about the Mamushe people is that they were part of an important anti-fascist resistance movement during World War II. They fought alongside other ethnic groups to liberate their homeland from Nazi occupation in 1945.
