Visit Suharekë


Suhareke is a region in the western part of Kosovo, located near the Albanian border. It consists of 8 municipalities and is known for its picturesque landscapes consisting of rolling hills and villages dotted with traditional Ottoman houses. The region is a popular tourist destination, boasting many outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and mountain biking in the surrounding countryside.

A must-see for visitors to Suhareke are Ujman Castle and Visoki Decani Monastery. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Ujman Castle is an ancient fortress built in the 13th century by Serbian King Stefan Milutin, while Visoki Decani Monastery was founded by Serbian King Stefan Decanski in 1330-1331. Both sites offer stunning views over the surrounding area and are great places to learn more about this region's history.

In addition to its natural beauty and cultural heritage sites, Suhareke also has an interesting historical fact - it was once considered a major trading post between Serbia and Albania during Ottoman rule from 1455 until 1912 when Serbia gained control over Kosovo. Today Suhareke remains a vibrant hub for commerce between these two countries as well as other parts of Europe.
