Visit Chüy

The Chuy is a large valley in Kyrgyzstan located in the central region between the cities of Bishkek and Osh. It is known for its vast grasslands, alpine meadows and stunning views of snow-capped mountains. The Chuy Valley serves as a beautiful nature retreat and contains many sites to explore, such as Ala Archa National Park, where hikers can walk through lush forests and admire the dramatic mountain scenery; Burana Tower, an 11th century minaret which offers a great insight into Kyrgyz history; and Issyk Kul Lake, one of Central Asia's largest high-altitude lakes.

An interesting historical fact about this area is that the Silk Road used to pass through this area from the 15th to 17th centuries. Merchants from China would travel up Bishkek's mountain passes in ancient caravans filled with precious goods such as spices, tea and silk fabrics. Today visitors can still witness how important trade was for Kyrgyz culture by exploring old trading posts scattered throughout the Chuy Valley.
