Visit Champasak

Champasak is a province in the southern part of Laos, located near the borders of Thailand and Cambodia. It is home to some of the country's most stunning natural beauty, including lush green forests, rolling hills, and tranquil rivers. The Phou Khao Khuay National Protected Area provides visitors with a prime location for wildlife spotting and nature exploration.

The historical city of Wat Phu is perhaps Champasak's most popular tourist destination. This ancient temple complex features intricate carvings from the Khmer period as well as a picturesque view of the Mekong River below. Additionally, travelers can explore ruins from pre-angkorian times at Ban Don Tani archeological site.

Contrary to much of modern day Laos' history, Champasak was once an independent kingdom ruled by Chao Fa Ngum who established one of Southeast Asia's largest empires in 1353 stretching across present day Laos, Thailand and Cambodia until it was annexed by Siam (Thailand) in 1720.
