Visit Oudômxai

Located in the north-western part of Laos, Oudomxai is a mountainous province filled with many natural attractions. Its landscape consists of vast valleys and mountains, which are perfect for hiking and adventure activities. Home to several minority ethnic groups, such as the Lanten and Yrou people, Oudomxai offers a unique culture and rich history.

Two must-see attractions in this region are the Wat Pha That Luang temple complex and Phongsali Provincial Museum. Both sites offer insight into local customs and religious practices, including ornate murals depicting scenes from the Buddhist faith. At Phongsali Provincial Museum visitors can explore traditional Laotian artifacts dating back to ancient times like royal clothing from past kings or ancient weapons used by Lao's ancestors.

In addition to its abundance of cultural attractions, Oudomxai is home to an interesting historical fact: it was once part of an independent Laotian territory that separated from Vientiane during the mid-19th century before eventually being annexed in 1949 by French Indochina.
